In early 2026 I had the privilege of running a WHM workshop at the Arztpraxis Innere Medizin MVZ Stuttgart. There are groups where you pay especially close attention as a WHM Instructor. Doctors are one of them. People who work with science every day, who read studies, who question things critically — and who still came to experience the Wim Hof Method for themselves. That was exactly the starting point for this course.
Different Roles, One Team
Those who normally wear clearly defined roles — doctor, assistant, administration — stood here side by side on the mat and then at the ice bath. Same exercise, same cold, same reaction. What that does to a team is hard to put into words.
In day-to-day medical practice, demands pile up: long shifts, emotional strain from patient contact, high pressure to make decisions. Burnout and chronic exhaustion are not the exception — they are structurally embedded in healthcare. That is exactly where WHM comes in.
What Made It Special: Doctors as Participants
Working with doctors as a group is its own experience. The scepticism is constructive, not dismissive — you can tell they want to understand why something works. The conversation about physiology, the autonomic nervous system and the research evidence on the Wim Hof Method was more intense than in most other courses.
And then: the ice bath. People who work daily with other people's bodies have a completely different relationship with their own. The fact that this particular group showed especially striking reactions — deep calm, palpable relief, amazement at what their own body could do — genuinely impressed me.
What Remains
Several participants have integrated the breathing exercises into their morning routine — and in the end everyone committed to the 30-Day Challenge. These are the moments that truly make me happy as an Instructor: when people are willing to seriously try something new for 30 days.
WHM in Healthcare — Why It Fits
Nursing staff, doctors, medical assistants: they carry daily responsibility for others — often at the expense of their own health. The Wim Hof Method gives them a simple, science-based tool back: control over their own nervous system. No effort, no equipment, applicable at any time.
A workshop can be the beginning.
